Tomek Günzel - Time Trap

For my submission for the Indie Film Music Contest Winter 2022, I decided to go for the sci-fi themed video, as I hold this genre close to my heart.

As I make both electronic and non-electronic music, I find myself seeking for a balance between those two. In this composition I chose to use both classic orchestral sounds and (modular) synthesizers and sought to create an organic sounding and cohesive whole.

In the score there is one main motif which is introduced in the beginning of the video and later expanded on. Later I added a “dark motif” as well to match the encountered danger of collision. These two motifs start to counterbalance each other as the protagonist is moving closer to being in control of his ship again, leading up to a climax in which the main motif expands.

Though the protagonist is still very busy with his ship after passing through the narrow canyon, you will find relief in my music. This was a point in the film I found interesting, because it could imply that the danger is not over yet. However, I decided that his body language and determination earlier on implied he had full control and was about to make it.
